MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) -Kanye West’s campaign insists the entertainer’s nomination papers to get on the November ballot in Wisconsin were filed on time — just barely.
West’s campaign said the state Elections Commission indicated the papers were filed at 14 seconds past 5pm last Tuesday; technically on time. The state’s requirement that nominating papers need to be filed “no later” than 5pm. means the actual deadline is 5:01 p.m.
The campaign also dismissed charges in a complaint by the state Democratic Party that some people were tricked into signing the papers. It is likely that many of the signatures will be challenged. Democrats in the state claim that West’s candidacy is a stunt to help Donald Trump win Wisconsin by taking votes away from Joe Biden.
A final ruling by the Elections Commission isn’t expected until later this month.
