There will be a primary battle for Wisconsin’s 27th Assembly District this September with the entry of a second Republican candidate into the race.
Current Oostburg Village Board President and former County Board Supervisor Brian Hilbelink announced on Monday that he will run against Lindee Brill, also of Oostburg, for the right to represent the Republican Party in November’s general election.
Hilbelink worked as a Master Electrician with DeTroye Electric for 27 years before working as a specialist with Werner Electric in 2016. Recently retired, Hilbelink cites his experience working with business owners and residents as giving him a good feel for the needs of the district. In his announcement, Hilbelink said that “As a conservative Republican, I will work to protect life any chance I get, from conception to natural death, lower taxes on working-class families and small businesses, and make sure that parents have a voice in their child’s education.”
Democrat Kay Ladson of Fond du Lac is the only Democrat on the Wisconsin Elections Commission roster entered to run for the 27th District this fall. Amy Binsfeld, the Republican who would have been the incumbent before redistricting, will face Democrat Joe Sheehan in November to decide representation for what’s now the 26th Assembly District.
