MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Charges are filed in the Wisconsin fake electors scheme.
The Office of Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed felony forgery charges in Dane County court against Kenneth Chesbro, James Troupis, and Michael Roman.
The Capitol Times reports all three are charged under a statute which criminalizes attempting to forge legal records or other public documents.
Despite Donald Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden in Wisconsin in 2020, the three men orchestrated an attempt to deliver a slate of false Republican electors to the US Senate and Vice President Mike Pence.
If convicted, each faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Initial court appearances are in September and the cases will likely extend past November’s election, unless the men reach plea deals.
