John Allen Navis, 80, of Waldo, went Home peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2024, after dealing with various health issues over the last several years.
John was born on October 8, 1943, to Alwin and Anne (Joosse) Navis in Sheboygan. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1961. John went on to graduate from Sheboygan Vocational School with an associate’s degree in Cost Accounting.
On May 8, 1965, John was united in marriage to Marjorie Mohr in Hingham.
John was a lifelong member of Hingham Reformed Church, where he served as elder, deacon, and catechism teacher for many years. John had a special place in his heart for young people. One of his passions was creating, writing, and directing the Maundy Thursday programs for church.
John was a fieldman at the Larson Company in Cedar Grove for over 35 years. While working at Larson, he began cash cropping part time. He continued cash cropping until his health didn’t allow him to anymore. Another passion of John’s, was collecting, talking about, and driving antique John Deere tractors.
John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marge; children, Richard (Dawn) Navis, Annette (Tim) Wisse, Mary (Chad) Lensink, Michael (Jennifer) Navis, Rev. Timothy (Leslie) Navis; grandchildren, Danielle (Joe), Ryan (fiancé Samantha), Alex (Montana), Halie (Eric), Jacquelyn (Jordan), Carissa (Eddie), Jesse, Jordan (Jacob), Katie, Ben, Ellie, Jason, Jackson, Jalen, Jordy, Evan, Jaden, Ember, Ryder; and great-grandchildren, Abigail, Jack, Charlotte, Camden. He is further survived by his brothers, James (Angela) Navis and Gary Navis; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Rueben and Lorena Mohr; brother-in-law, Roger Mohr; and sister-in-law, Annette Navis.
A funeral service to celebrate John’s life will be held at Hingham Church on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest at Hingham Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at church on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm and again at church on Monday from 9:00am until the time of service.
Memorials are appreciated in John’s name to Hingham Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
