A 23-year-old student teacher at Sheboygan Falls High School has been charged in Sheboygan County Circuit Court with one count of Exposing a Child to Harmful Material. According to the criminal complaint heard in court on Thursday, Ethan Andrew Kiefer, a Sheboygan resident, distributed “harmful material” to a 17-year-old female at the school.
Sheboygan Falls Police Officer Richard Allen, a School Resource Officer for the Sheboygan Falls School District, said in the complaint that he learned of an exchange of nude pictures between the victim and Kiefer this past Monday. Kiefer, he said, is not employed by the School District, but was a university student receiving college credits for being a teacher’s aide at the school.
Allen reported interviewing the girl who initially denied knowing Kiefer beyond seeing him in the hallways. However, after receiving written statements from students who’d seen the photos in question, the victim admitted that she’d exchanged photos and videos with Kiefer via snapchat and was in a relationship with him. After supplying her telephone passcode to Officer Allen, multiple images of her and Kiefer were found.
Sheboygan Falls Police Chief and Director of Public Safety, Aaron Wigen, said that the incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. The charge already heard on Thursday is a Class-1 Felony which carries with it a maximum penalty of 3-1/2 years in prison and/or fines of up to $10,000, and could result in lifelong consequences for Kiefer as a sex offender.
