Obtaining needed credentials for industry professionals can be a problem, especially in underrepresented populations, and a $5.7 million grant shared by LTC with eight other Wisconsin Technical Colleges aims to solve that problem.
The Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor is part of a larger $65 million federal program that is helping 16 colleges in 14 states.
According to LTC President Dr. Paul Carlsen, Lakeshore Technical College will receive $400,000 over the next four years in order to “…take significant steps forward in preparing students…to enter our rapidly evolving manufacturing sector.” Carlsen said that’s the largest sector in our community, and employers need LTC’s graduates to be workforce-ready on day one.
LTC will primarily us its grant to fund the integration of embedded, industry-recognized credentials within advanced manufacturing programs, the development of corresponding learning materials that can save students money compared to buying textbooks, and efforts to reduce equity gaps among students in manufacturing programs. Focus will be placed on LTC’s electronic maintenance, industrial maintenance, and mechatronics programs.
