Norbert A. Duening passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice one week after his 92 nd birthday. Norb (as he was known to most) was born
in Sheboygan in 1932 to Walter and Erna Duening. He graduated from Sheboygan North High
School in 1950. After graduation Norb entered the U.S. Military and underwent basic training at
Fort Leonard Wood in the Missouri Ozarks. Norb was stationed in Germany as part of the
occupation forces during the Korean War. His skills with vehicles kept him busy in his unit’s
motor pool. After his military service Norb was employed in Sheboygan and Green Bay by
Wisconsin Public Service where he worked until his retirement in 1992. Norb was a huge
Packers fan and enjoyed weekends in Door County where he enjoyed renovating his cottages,
boating, and snowmobiling. In his retirement years he and his wife Carole spent their time
between Sheboygan, Door County, and Florida where they also had a condo. His last great
adventure was in June 2021 when he joined his two sons on an RV road trip to Colorado. The
trip was punctuated by cocktails, campfires, cigars, and tales of years gone by. Norb is survived
by his sons Thomas (Charlene) of Cypress, TX, and Scott (Amy) of Sheboygan, and by five
grandchildren: Christin, Jennifer, Tiffany, Sean, and Mya. He was preceded in death by his wife
of 65 years Carole (Gurnea), his daughter Kim, and by his brothers Leslie and Alvin.
The family thanks Barb, Hannah, and especially Norb’s granddaughter Christin for caring for
him at home until he entered hospice. The family also sends thanks to the nurses and doctors at
Aurora Medical Center and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. A private burial will
take place at Wildwood Cemetery, where Norb will be laid to rest beside his wife and daughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in
Norb’s name.
