Most people from this area associate the name “Bemis” with its best-known product: toilet seats. So it won’t come as any surprise, but might evoke a chuckle, when told that Bemis’ flagship product is playing a role in an exhibit raising awareness of colon cancer in Washington, DC. The company has partnered with the “Fight Colorectal Cancer” organization by donating 100 toilet seats now on display on the National Mall, each one hosting an awareness fact or statistic about colorectal cancer. That’s the second-deadliest cancer in the US among men and women combined. The seats surround more than 27,000 blue flags on the National Lawn, symbolizing projected colorectal cancer case numbers in individuals under age 50 by the year 2030.
Bemis’ V-P of Marketing T.J. Stiefvater noted that the company partnered with Fight CRC because “Colorectal cancer doesn’t discriminate by age…”, and said that, “Our continued partnership with Fight CRC demonstrates our support to raise awareness, and support initiatives against this deadly disease.”
Bemis’ toilet seats will remain part of the exhibit now through March 22nd.
