“Rollercoaster” is a word often used to describe February weather in Wisconsin, but “whiplash” might also apply to what’s expected here for the next 24 hours. With Lake Michigan water temperatures of 35 degrees keeping shoreline temperatures cool overnight, a surge of southwest winds should begin the upward swing towards highs in the mid to upper 60s – possibly to 70 degrees, something more typical of late-May. And while another spring standard of “cooler near the lake” might prevent some from enjoying the best conditions, the usual high of just above freezing today will be left far behind with plenty of sunshine for all. And, fortunately, the risk of severe spring weather appears to have receded to our south.
Mild temperatures should last into the evening, but by daybreak Wednesday windchills could be below zero with actual temperatures remaining under 20 degrees for much of the day, and unlikely to exceed the freezing mark until midday Thursday. Along with the arrival of more typical winter temperatures…yes, it is still winter…comes the forecast of a half inch or so of snow by Wednesday morning and the advice for drivers to be wary of possibly slippery roads for the morning commute.
