There’s increasing confidence among National Weather Service forecasters that Sheboygan County is a safe bet for receiving a quick-hitting 3-5 inch snowfall between midnight and 8 a.m. Thursday. New data has resulted in expansion southward of a Winter Weather Advisory that now stretches from Ozaukee County northward to the UP of Michigan and westward in Wisconsin as far as LaCrosse northward to Polk County.
Snow is now seen as the dominant factor, as a slight shift in the storm path to the south will favor a lighter and fluffier snow. While that’s good news for shovelers, it also means that a 3-inch snowfall is now likely even near Lake Michigan. Locations such as Greenbush in the Kettle Moraine could receive as much as 5 inches of snow, and with northwest winds gusting as high as 30 miles an hour on Thursday roads are expected to be vulnerable to slippery conditions for much of the day.
The highest impact, though, will be to the morning commute with the bulk of precipitation falling between 2 and 8 a.m., and a Winter Weather Advisory has been posted until that time, beginning at midnight tonight.
