Drivers, and pedestrians for that matter, were advised to use extra caution earlier today as the National Weather Service says you could encounter freezing fog, but improving conditions have now spared Sheboygan County, leaving Washington and Fond du Lac Counties in the hazard zone.
An advisory was issued for the phenomenon in which fog droplets freeze on contact with cold surfaces can cause black ice to form on roads and sidewalks creating hazardous conditions that might not be easily seen. Also hard to see would be oncoming traffic in denser areas of the fog, and so drivers should remember to slow down and turn on their headlights to be better visible on the road.
The problem is expected to ease by noon today when the advisory expires, but patchy fog will still be a possibility once again overnight.
