Affectionately known by its members as “the small church with a big heart”, a congregation in Kohler is celebrating a century of faith this year. Grace United Church of Christ in Kohler began its year-long celebration on Sunday, January 14th. Among the special features was the performance of an original song by a well-known local name, Curt Joa. The namesake of his family’s Sheboygan Falls Custom Machinery business performed his original song “God is Here” as a tribute to the congregation that began as a “mission church” with 24 charter members meeting in the former Kohler Village Hall 100 years ago on January 10th. The church’s cornerstone was laid in 1926 where the church now stands on School Street just west of the Kohler schools.
True to its “small church with a big heart” spirit, the observance included delivery of a bag of hats and mittens to the Sheboygan Falls Elementary and Middle Schools for kids in need, while collection of personal hygiene products for their “Help the Homeless Drive” begins along with their “Souperbowl Sunday” observance on February 11th.
Grace invites anyone to attend their 10 a.m. services each Sunday, or at an additional 8 a.m. service on the first Sunday of each month.
