Petra Martinez, age 91, of Sheboygan, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice.
She was born in Laredo, TX on November 13, 1932, to the late Jose and Gregoria Barrientos. On
May 9, 1955 Petra was united in marriage to Victor Martinez and they moved to Sheboygan in
1966. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2001. Petra was employed with various
manufacturing companies within Sheboygan, retiring from Lakeside Foods.
Petra was very family orientated. She loved being the caretaker, whether it was her children,
grandchildren or great-grandchildren. Her passion was cooking for those she loved and she will
be deeply missed.
Petra is survived by her children, Javier (Celia) Martinez and Linda Martinez; grandchildren,
Erica (Eric) Grehn, Veronica Valdez, Monica Mendez, Jose Espana, Juan Magana and Arcelia
(Erik) Schweisthal; several great-grandchildren and a sister Maria (Carlos) Torres; nieces,
nephews, other family and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Petra was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica
Vargas Katerski; brothers, Luis, Jose, Juan, Crescencio, Francisco, Felipe and Roberto and sisters,
Modesta and Guadalupe.
A Memorial Service for Petra will take place on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Ballhorn
Chapels Funeral and Cremation Care Center, 1201 N 8 th St. in Sheboygan with Deacon Balleriano
Gonzalez officiating. Family will greet visitors on Wednesday, at the funeral home, from 11:00
AM until the time of the service. Petra will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials in Petra’s name to go to Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice.
The family would like to thank Dillon Shiff for the support and guidance over the last few years.
They would also like to thank Caleigh and Becky from Community Care for their help along the
way. A special thank you to the staff at both Shores of Sheboygan (especially Jenny and Sonia)
and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the excellent care given to Petra.
