The third fatal traffic accident on I-43 in Manitowoc County within a week happened on Thursday afternoon. The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office said they were dispatched to the scene beneath the I-43 bridge over the Manitowoc River at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Two earlier accidents on Monday and Tuesday had already claimed a combined three lives.
Investigators determined that the Chevy S-10 pickup truck involved on Thursday was being driven northbound when it entered the median, struck the guardrail and went down the embankment, eventually coming to rest along the south bank. The 56-year-old driver, identified only as a Green Bay resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
