Carolyn J. Ver Straate, 85, of Sheboygan, passed away Saturday morning, December 16, 2023 at her home with her daughter by her side.
Born October 14, 1938 in Oostburg, Carolyn was a daughter of the late Jacob and Esther Ter Maat Caljouw. She attended Jefferson Grade School and graduated from Oostburg High School in 1956. On June 4, 1960, she was united in marriage to Richard Te Stroete in Oostburg. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1975. On July 24, 1982, she married Burton Ver Straate. They were married for 21 years before Burt preceded her in death on January 23, 2004.
Carolyn worked at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center for 18 years before her retirement in 2014. She previously worked as a secretary at J.L. French for 17 years. She was a member of Christ Community Church. She enjoyed reading and taking trips up north. She liked being active by golfing and bowling and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.
She is survived by her children, Bradley Te Stroete, Randy Te Stroete and Tammy (Robert Berger) Roe, all of Sheboygan; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; her brother, Ellsworth Caljouw; her sister, Judy (Russell) Lilyquist; in laws, Richard (Ruth) Ver Straate, Karen (Robert) Theune and Grace Ver Straate. She is further survived by her step children, Terry (Marlene) Ver Straate, Jill (Mark) Berg, Martha (Tim) De Korver, Beth Jones and Sara Settimi; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and her husbands, She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amanda Roe; her sisters, Beatrice (Gordon) Wilterdink and Marilyn (Gene) Charles; an infant brother, Marvin Caljouw; and a sister-in-law, Betty Caljouw.
A memorial service for Carolyn will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1132 Superior Avenue, Sheboygan. Family and friends are welcome at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
