A boost from Sheboygan County Health and Human Services will keep a popular mental health drop-in center available to its clients for another year.
The boost – $175,000 worth – was allocated by the Sheboygan County Board from American Rescue Plan Act funds, providing assurance of services that for the past several years have been a struggle to maintain.
Open Door Recovery Center began operations nearly 25 years ago under the umbrella of the Sheboygan County Department of Health and Human Services. In 2013 Mental Health America began providing programming and management of the center, transitioning from part-time to a full recovery center for mental health and addiction. Vistas Care took over those duties four years ago, but the upcoming expiration of the current contract made closure loom large when Health and Human Services was unable to meet the more than $268,000 bill requested to keep it open past this coming January. The new funding will now enable Open Door to keep its doors open through 2024.
