The incidence of COVID-19 in Wisconsin overall now rivals levels last seen in January…and seems on pace to reach a new high for the year.
While the Wisconsin Department of Health Services no longer tracks test results since most are now in-home and seldom reported to authorities, monitoring of wastewater provides a dependable picture of trends among the population using a particular sewershed. Taking into account all treatment plants in the State, COVID-19 is clearly heading for another seasonal peak.
Sheboygan County is measured at two locations; the Plymouth and Sheboygan Wastewater Treatment Facilities. A week ago Plymouth’s trend showed a significant uptick in the number of virus particles detected, and this week Sheboygan’s report showed a similar trend.
No alerts or advisories have resulted from the upward trends, but officials still advise people to practice good hygiene, consider being vaccinated, and if desired, wear a mask in crowded conditions.
