Support for children in military families, convertible shoes and leadership counseling are diverse ideas that were all recognized as winners in the 2023 Accelerate Sheboygan County Business Challenge. The annual program, aimed at assisting entrepreneurs and innovators in taking their ideas and businesses to the next level, announced the winners after a “Shark-Tank”-like pitch event two weeks ago.
Deanne Herber’s presentation on her “Kids in Combat Boots” venture was awarded the first-place prize of $6,000 from Accel Sheboygan County, with another $1,000 from Wisconsin Business Development. Herber’s desire to support Sheboygan County’s share of the country’s 1.5 million children of active duty soldiers and reservists won over the judges here, and she’ll now make her case on Thursday at regional competition at Titletown Tech in Green Bay.
Accompanying Herber will be second-place winner Michaela Heling. Heling’s line of “Protean Footwear” allows one shoe to use interchangeable soles, making sports more affordable – and portable – for athletes who use them instead of carrying separate turf, metal, and molded cleat shoes. Heling was awarded a total of $3,000 in prizes.
The “People’s Choice” award was given to 45 Degrees Leadership Consulting Amplify Your Growth.
