MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin’s newest state Supreme Court justice will be sworn-in Saturday while taking part in a unique running event.
Jill Karofsky will be taking part in a 100-mile ‘ultra-Marathon’. She’ll pause about 35-miles into the event to be sworn-in during an outdoor ceremony.
She told supporters that she’s running because a formal swearing-in ceremony won’t be possible because of COVID-19 and social distancing requirement.
Karofsky is an avid long-distance runner. The event in southwestern Wisconsin begins at 6am and lasts for about 30-hours.
She won a 10-year term on the state’s highest court earlier this year, defeating Scott Walker appointee Daniel Kelly. When she takes her seat the court’s conservative majority will narrow from 5-2 to 4-3.
