MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A record level of testing turned up more than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus in Wisconsin once again on Friday.
The state Department of Health Services reported 1,018 new positive tests and 16,438 negative tests. The number of positives and the 5.8% positive rate were both down from Thursday’s numbers.
The 17,456 tests reported represented a single-day record for Wisconsin, topping the 16,451 done on June 3.
The state also reported no new deaths for the first time in 11 days. The total remains at 878.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 46,917 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 795,280 negative tests.
DHS considers 35,502 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. That’s around 77% of total cases.
Wisconsin health Secretary Andrea Palm on Thursday said a more accurate picture of virus activity is the seven-day average, in part due to a backlog in counties reporting negative cases.
The Wisconsin Hospitals Association has not reported the number of patients since Tuesday. A note on its website says the WHA is working to accommodate recently announced data collection requirements from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
