(WHBL) – The next time you plan to spend time fishing, boating or skiing on Elkhart Lake, you’ll want to check a new forecast being made by the National Weather Service in Milwaukee. Each day through the warm months at around 3 AM and 3:30 PM, the National Weather Service distributes an experimental Recreational Boater Forecast for many inland lakes in Southeastern Wisconsin.
A four-day forecast displays expected wave heights for all four days, while the estimated surface water temperature is included for the first two 12-hour forecast periods. The other usual elements like winds, air temperature, sky conditions and precipitation are also included.
Today, for example, Elkhart Lake is expecting waves of 1/2 to 1 foot, mostly sunny skies until becoming mostly cloudy around 2 PM, and a chance of thunderstorms after 5. High temperature will be around 73 with a southeast wind of 5-10 MPH. Water temperature is 73, and the UV index will be a very high 8.
