MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers settled for a series split with the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 4-1 defeat in the finale from American Family Field on Sunday.
Brandon Woodruff got saddled with the loss after surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out nine batters over five innings.
William Contreras scored the lone run for the Brew Crew on an error in the ninth inning.
Johan Oviedo was terrific on the mound and earned the win after surrendering just two hits over seven scoreless innings for Pittsbugh. Connor Joe, Bryan Reynolds and Endy Rodriguez each slugged homers for Pittsburgh, which improved to 50-61.
Milwaukee dropped to 60-53, but is still first in the NL Central. The Brewers lead both the Cubs and Reds by a game and a half.
The Brewers open a three-game series against the Rockies at American Family Field on Monday night with pregame coverage on WHBL beginning at 6:35.
