A woman needed to be hospitalized after the house she was in exploded last night. The events began to unfold when the Sheboygan Police Department was at the scene on North 12th Street where a woman suffering a mental health crisis had barricaded herself inside the home. Sheboygan Fire Department Battalion Chief Chase Longmiller said his department was called at around 8:30 p.m. to assist police once the situation was under control and safe. Fire crews were staged nearby and ready, and then there was an explosion.
Firefighters immediately worked to suppress the resulting fire, while Paramedics began giving life support to the woman who had exited the home after the explosion before taking her to the hospital. A search found no additional victims and the fire was quickly extinguished. Two cats belonging to another person who wasn’t there at the time were found and reunited with the owner. That person is being assisted by the Red Cross as the home was declared uninhabitable.
