MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — With Minnesota the latest state to allow recreational cannabis, a Wisconsin lawmaker says the state is missing out.
“Minnesota officially becomes the 23rd state to legalize cannabis for responsible adult usage, which makes Wisconsin even more an island of prohibition,” said State Senator Melissa Agard.
The Madison democrat has been a long-time supporter of marijuana legalization in Wisconsin.
Minnesota’s first dispensary is already open, with more likely to follow.
“We’re losing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue to the states and likely hundreds of millions of dollars in economic stimulus,” said Agard.
A bill allowing strictly regulated medical marijuana is reportedly in works in the Wisconsin legislature.
