Robert A. “Butch” Savela, 77, of Sheboygan, passed away at his home on July 12,
2023.
Born on March 24, 1946, to Arthur and Sylvia (Beckman) Savela in Laurium, MI, Butch
attended Calumet High School in Michigan and later served his country for two years in
the United States Navy as a radioman.
On January 20, 1968, Butch married Linda Marchand in Lake Linden, MI. They moved
to Sheboygan, WI to make their home and raise two children.
Butch was a dedicated employee of Kohler Company for over 44 years working as a
foreman in the pottery division. After retirement, he continued as a part time consultant.
He was also a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
Butch was a talented woodworker, creative artist, photographer, and had many
collections. He was always involved in home improvement projects and was very
generous with helping others. Butch was a member of the American Legion Post 90 in
Lake Linden, MI. He had a quiet kindness about him and will be dearly missed.
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Linda Savela of Sheboygan; daughter,
Shelley Savela of Grafton; son, Robert Savela, Jr. of Minneapolis; sisters, Linda
Chernetski, and Lori (Henry) Gamez; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Steve) Buttner, Susie
Marchand, Pam (Mike) Meissner; and brother-in-law, Victor Mertzig. He is further
survived by nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and many other relatives
and friends.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald Savela, and sister-in-law,
Carol Mertzig.
A service to celebrate his life will take place at the Wenig Funeral Home of Sheboygan
Falls on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 1:30 pm. A visitation will take place at the funeral
home from 11:30 am until the time of service at 1:30 pm. Butch will be laid to rest at
Greenlawn Memorial Park in Sheboygan.
