MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – Keston Hiura homered, doubled and drove in three runs as the Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in Milwaukee on Wednesday afternoon to avoid getting swept.
Jordan Lyles yielded one run and struck out nine while pitching into the sixth to earn the victory. Josh Hader closed it out with a two-inning save, his 26th. The Brewers ended a three-game slide and halted the Cardinals’ six-game winning streak.
Kolten Wong had three of the seven St. Louis hits, including a solo shot. Jack Flaherty was charged with three runs, but just one unearned, in six innings to take the loss.
The Brewers are off on Thursday. They begin a three-game series against the Cubs Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Chase Anderson will oppose Chicago’s Jose Quintana in the opener. The Brewers are three and a half games out of the second NL wild card spot
