Sheboygan’s Mayor is under fire, accused of an ethics violation for a photo that was posted to the Visit Sheboygan Facebook Page late last month. Concerned citizens have sent letters to Common Council members calling on the Council to conduct an investigation into Ryan Sorenson, claiming he violated Section 2-246 of the City’s Ethics Policy. The charges stem from a picture in which Mayor Sorenson posed with members of “The Sisters for Perpetual Indulgence” during a pride event on June 24th. Members of that group were dressed in outfits mocking nuns and the Catholic religion. WHBL News was sent copies of letters from two citizens, asking for an investigation by the Common Council. Alderman Joe Heideman told WHBL News that he went to the City Clerk’s office Thursday afternoon attempting to have those letters included in Monday’s common council agenda, but minutes after submitting them to the Clerk was contacted and was told that the Mayor – who rarely vetoes items from the agenda – did just that and Heidemann’s request was turned down.
WHBL contacted Mayor Sorenson for comment, but he did not return our calls. The group “Take Back Sheboygan County” plans a protest at City Hall during Monday night’s 6pm meeting.
