MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A proposal to allow Wisconsin pharmacists to directly prescribe birth control got its first hearing on Wednesday.
State Representative Joel Kitchens says someone seeking birth control would have to fill out a simple questionnaire.
“If there are no red flags, they will dispense the birth control as quickly as practicable and will report the prescription to that woman’s primary health practitioner,” said Kitchens. “Pharmacists are not required to participate in the program if they have moral objections to birth control.”
Kitchens says allowing women to have reproductive choices will not only reduce abortions, it will improve outcomes for children by ensuring that pregnancies are planned.
