MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers managed to split their series against the Chicago Cubs after taking Thursday’s finale by a final score of 6-5 at American Family Field.
JC Mejia was credited with the victory in relief. Joel Payamps secured his third save of the season.
Christian Yelich hit a three-run homer and Victor Caratini’s solo homer in the eighth inning broke a five-all tie.
Cody Bellinger and Yan Gomes each slugged a two-run shot for the Cubs, who are third in the division at 40-46.
Michael Fulmer was charged with the loss.
With the win, the Brewers improved to 47-41 and continue to hold down second place in the NL Central. The division leader, meanwhile, will be Milwaukee’s next opponent as the Cincinnati Reds head to American Family Field for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday night. The Reds are currently two games ahead of the Brewers.
