SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were added to Sheboygan County’s load due to the coronavirus pandemic, with 104 persons in the county now actively battling the disease – two of those are hospitalized. 337 cases have now been confirmed since the virus first appeared back in March. With 520 tests coming back negative, the positive return rate here is just under 3%. 3 more persons have recovered, yielding a total recovery of 229. The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health says that there were no clusters associated with today’s 16 new cases. This comes after 20 cases were added Monday, and 6 each on Sunday and Saturday.
Within the state, another 964 persons tested positive for COVID-19, a new daily high, and that’s 6.6% of all test returns. 6 more persons died, raising the state death toll to 826.
Despite the recent uptick in cases, Sheboygan County remains in Phase-2 of its Safe Restart Program. The County DHS reminded residents in its daily report that it still cannot advise that persons attend or arrange mass gatherings, and there’s no timeframe as to when this advice would change. The communal nature of such events, it says, makes it especially challenging to adhere to social distancing rules.
One such major mass gathering – the Sheboygan County Fair – was announced as cancelled today by the Sheboygan County Fair Board. In a news release, the board says that the decision was made after careful consideration and guidance from numerous officials from public health and safety sectors and the County Administrator, Adam Payne, who said: “I’d rather err on the side of caution than risk dire consequences.”
The Fair Board went on to say: “We have an incredible community that will work hard to get through this together. We can all use this as a challenge for an opportunity to grow, create and become stronger for the years to come.”
