Ruth C. Obbink, 87, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Sunday,
February 11, 2018 at Azura Memory Care of Sheboygan.
Ruth was born on February 9, 1931 in Sheboygan to Raymond
and Alice (TeBeest) TenDolle. She was a 1949 graduate of Oostburg High School.
On November 18, 1949 she married Leon Obbink in the Town of Lima at her parents
home. Her and Leon had a very good marriage. He preceded her in death on
October 5, 2016. Ruth dedicated herself to taking care of and raising their
three children.
Ruth was a member of Hingham Reformed Church where she was a
Sunday school teacher, Bible class teacher, a member of Missions Circle Task
Force. Ruth was an avid reader, and enjoyed cooking, shopping, playing cards,
collecting precious moments, hiking and biking at the state parks and
traveling, especially to Florida during the winter months. Ruth loved attending
her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, her sister time and spending
time with her family, whom she loved very much.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Linda (Steven) Meinen; her
two sons, Daniel (Sally) Obbink and James (Michelle) Obbink; eight
grandchildren, Jason (Clara) Meinen, Erin (Justin) Piper, Kari (Andy) Meinen,
Jamie (Andy) Brill, Stephanie (Curtis) Warren, Travis, Justin ( fiancé Hollie
DenBoer) and Brittany Obbink; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Oonk, Mary Dirkse and
Bonnie (Dan) Belshan; sister-in-law, Phyllis Obbink and one brother-in-law,
Harlan (Marge) Obbink.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Leon; three brothers-in-law, Carl Dirkse, Gilbert Oonk and Wesley Obbink.
A funeral service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held on Friday,
February 16, 2018 at 6pm at the Hingham Reformed Church with Rev. Steven Bakker
officiating. Burial will be at Hingham Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday,
February 16, 2018 at Hingham Reformed Church from 4pm until the time of service
at 6pm.
A memorial fund is being established for Cedar Grove Fire
and Rescue in her name.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the
staff of Azura Memory Care of Sheboygan, Sharon S. Richardson Hospice and Cedar
Grove Gardens for their care and compassion they gave to Ruth.
