Edgar Alfred Gosse, age 92 of Sheboygan Falls, WI, passed away
to be with his valentine on Sunday, February 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving
family at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Edgar was born on September 30, 1925 in rural Sheboygan Falls,
the only child of the late Rueben and Ida (Rackow) Gosse.
He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943. Besides
helping on the family farm, he participated in track and field and played
guitar in a band. Edgar completed a four-year apprenticeship in the
employ of Andrew Houwers Construction at the trade of carpentry. He was a
precision carpenter who built his only home from start to finish.
Edgar continued his work in the carpentry industry as an
expeditor for Great Lakes Homes then worked at American Chair and Nemschoff
Chair before joining Donahue and Associates. In 1987, Edgar retired from
Donahue and Associates as a field engineer.
On April 12, 1951, he married June Keppler at Zion Evangelical
and Reformed Church in Sheboygan. Prior to their first date, Edgar wrote
and mailed June, a school teacher near his homestead, a letter to introduce
himself. Their first date on April 12, 1945 later became their wedding
anniversary. Shortly after uniting in marriage, Edgar was deployed to
serve in the United States Army in Germany.
After retirement, Edgar worked for many years at the Wade House
Historic Site in Greenbush transporting tourists with a horse-drawn
wagon. Horses and animals in general were a passion of his from his
younger days on the farm. He took great
pride in working with the many teams of draft horses.
He was an active church member at Zion Evangelical Covenant
Church in Sheboygan. He served on the consistory and sang tenor in the
senior choir for over 60 years. June and Edgar also belonged to a social
club of church couples called Merry Mates. Also, he was on the planning
committees of his high school class reunions as well as a long-time member of
the American Legion Post #149 in Sheboygan Falls.
Edgar’s hobbies included daily Bible reading, donating blood, singing
solos for weddings and funerals, gardening, hunting and fishing with his sons,
bird watching and traveling throughout Wisconsin with his wife and
children. He could build or fix just about anything; a real “Mr.
Fix-It!”. Edgar was an avid sports fan who faithfully supported the
Packers, Brewers and Bucks. He especially enjoyed watching his children
and grandchildren excel at many different sports and also attending their
choral and band concerts. Edgar was always a gentle and selfless husband,
father, grandfather and friend. He cherished all holidays and family
gatherings which included many memories at the cottage on Horseshoe Lake.
Edgar is survived by his children: Ruth (Kevin) Raeder of
Sheboygan Falls and William (Debra) Gosse of Green Bay; Daughter-in-law: Penny
(Gosse) Wieser (Jim) of Plymouth; Nine grandchildren: Kristine (Peter) Worth,
Julie Raeder; Aaron, Jared, Noah, Adam and Caleb Gosse; Skyler and Cooper
Gosse; One sister-in-law: Helen Keppler; One nephew: Philip (Denise) Aigner;
One great niece and nephew: Nola and Nate Aigner.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, June,
who he faithfully cared for until her passing; His parents; One son: John
Gosse; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Virginia and Willard Aigner;
Brothers-in-law: Arnold Keppler Jr. and John Keppler; and many other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at
4:00 PM at Zion Evangelical Covenant Church at
1125 North
Sixth Street
in Sheboygan. Pastor
Chris McKnight will officiate. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery in
Sheboygan. Friends may call the church on Sunday at 2:00
PM until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in
Edgar’s name.
Military Rites will be accorded by Fredericks-Mueller-Norgard
American Legion Post #149 of Sheboygan Falls on Monday at Wildwood Cemetery in
Sheboygan.
