Herbert C. Heiden, 93, of
Sheboygan, passed away Thursday, September 06, 2018 at home.
He was born May 11
th
,
1925 in Sheboygan Falls, WI to Louis and Meta (Splittgerber) Heiden.
He attended grade school in Town of
Sheboygan Falls and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1943. He lived at
Route 1, Plymouth until moving to Sheboygan in 1977.
During World War II, 1945-1947, he
served in the Army as a Mess Sergeant. After his return home, he continued
working on the family farms with his dad.
He was united in marriage to Edna
Grace Lau on March 20, 1948; it was a happy 70 year marriage.
In 1954, he started employment with
Kohler Company. He was a foreman in the pottery division, and later transferred
to plant security, retiring in 1987.
Prior to moving to Sheboygan, he
was an active member of Plank Road Salem UCC Church, serving in different
capacities as Elder, Sec-Trea, and President. He also served as Vice President,
and later President of the County Churchmen’s Brotherhood before transferring
to Ebenezer UCC of Sheboygan.
Herb and Edna traveled in all of
the lower 48 states and toured Alaska, which was one of their favorite trips.
They also enjoyed a Caribbean cruise, a steamboat ride on the Mississippi River
and attended 20 Elderhostels at different locations.
He enjoyed dancing and playing
cards. He could not pass up an invitation to play bridge. He always had time to
visit with family and friends. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing for salmon
from the South pier. His grandson, Eric, was often his fishing buddy. He looked
forward to meeting his retiree friends for breakfast on Tuesday mornings. He
was faithful, strong, loving and family-oriented.
He is survived by his wife, Edna,
and his three children: Howard (Marilyn), Plymouth, WI: Steven (Billie),
Texarkana, TX, and Marjorie (Robert) Brown, Grand Marais, MN. Also surviving
are two special grandsons: Christopher (Dr. Tisha and son, Elliot), and Eric
(Laurie and her daughter, Nicole); two sisters: Doris Bruggink, Greenbush, WI,
and Evelyn DeGroff of Waldo, WI. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and
many friends.
A celebration of life will be held
on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer United Church of Christ
(3215 Saemann Avenue, Sheboygan) with Rev. Dr. Roger Mealiff officiating. Visitation at the church, from 10:00 a.m.
