It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cynthia A. Habeck, age 69. Cindy passed away in
her home on May 19th, 2023.
She was born in Ladysmith, WI on December 10, 1953, to the late Eugene and Irma (Charmley) Smrstick.
Cindy grew up in Wausau Wisconsin. It was at Wausau East High School where she would meet her
husband, Allen Habeck. The two shared a loving and fulfilling 45 years together. Cindy and Al had a love
for travel. Throughout their years together, they would take many trips and spend countless hours
exploring beautiful beaches throughout the world. They frequented many beautiful resorts, collecting
stories and souvenirs along the way.
After graduating high school, Cindy earned her bachelors degree in nursing. Devoted to a career caring
for others, Cindy worked at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan for just shy of 40 years. She practiced
nursing in an abundance of roles – most recently serving as a nurse manager on a medical surgical unit.
Cindy was destined to be a nurse. Her attentive and nurturing demeanor comforted those far beyond
the walls of the hospital. Her family would lovingly refer to her as "the nurse of the family" as Cindy
provided care for anyone, human or animal, within her life.
Cindy was fiercely devoted to her loved ones. She was the best wife, daughter, sister, aunt, coworker,
friend and an admiringly devoted dog and cat mom. Cindy had a special relationship with her nieces and
nephews. Her and Al prided themselves in planning special outings with each of them to ballparks,
restaurants, beaches, and even Walt Disney World. The best memories were always made with them.
Cindy handled all of life's trials with grace, perseverance, and an appreciation for life. Aside from her
unwavering strength, she will be lovingly remembered for her nurturing demeanor and her "patience of
a Saint."
She is survived by her siblings, Laurie (Dan) Mjelde, Pam (Terry) Hesse, and Mike Smrstick; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Jerry (Lanee) Habeck, Brian (Sue) Habeck, Russell (Cindy) Habeck, Roger (Cindy) Habeck
and Dennis (Becky) Habeck; many beloved nieces, nephews, her fur-baby – Layla, and other dear family
and friends.
Along with her parents, Cindy was preceded in death by her in-laws, Doris and Arlon, and her husband of
45 years, Allen Habeck. There is comfort knowing they are all reunited again.
A Memorial Service for Cindy and Allen will take place at 1:00PM on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, at
Ballhorn Chapels Funeral and Cremation Care Center, 1201 N 8th St. in Sheboygan, with Deacon Michael
