A local facility that most people don’t think about…or want to think about very much…houses a laboratory that the State of Wisconsin has recognized with an award. That place is the Sheboygan Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant and it houses the state’s 2023 Lab of the Year.
Treating the area’s least-desireable product so it can be safely released into the environment requires strict compliance with Department of Natural Resources regulation, and the on-site lab does the regular testing and reporting that assures that standards are met.
DNR Environmental Manager Steve Geis said that it was the plant’s “commitment to quality that makes the Sheboygan Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant a valued partner with the DNR in protecting our state’s water resources.”
This is the second time the facility was nominated, something the DNR says proves a dedication to high standards. The Sheboygan lab was also recognized as a valuable resource for the
DNR’s Lab Certification Team, most recently when it helped troubleshoot some issues with chlorine analysis. In addition, the lab has had zero deficiencies in its last two audits, something the agency said is very rare.
