Max Marcus Bloom, 91, passed away peacefully at the Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice on December 20, 2018 after
complications of Parkinson’s disease and cancer.
He was born on September 14, 1927 in Nashua, Iowa to Irving and Estelle
Bloom.
On February 23, 1952, Max married Marlys Hook of Dysart, IA. She
preceded him in death in 2006 after 54 years of marriage.
Max graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern
Iowa) and worked as a sales engineer for Valmet Paper until retiring in
1999. He and Marlys lived in Oshkosh until her death, at which time he
moved to Sheboygan to be closer to his daughter and family.
Max was an Eagle Scout and served many years as Camp Chairman on
the board for Camp Fire Girls and was the recipient of the Luther Gulick
Award. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son-in-law,
grandsons and good friend Gary. He was a talented woodworker and built
many pieces of fine furniture, including the trophy case at Blue Line Ice
Center in Sheboygan. Max was also an avid Badger fan, holding season
football tickets for over 30 years and attending several Rose Bowls. He and
Marlys hosted incredible tailgates before each game. Even his car was red!
He enjoyed traveling and visited many foreign countries.
After moving to Sheboygan in 2006, Max became involved in volunteering
at the Weill Center, and helping to build Bookworm Gardens. Max built the
three bear’s chairs, the picket fence and arbor in the farm area, the tennis
racket fence and moon gate, the Wild Things, Twitch’s mailbox and Stuart
Little’s house. He also collaborated on the yellow Playhouse for Monster
house with good friend Dick. He poured his heart and soul in to Bookworm
until he was no longer physically able to participate. A surprise 90th
birthday party was held in his honor at Bookworm.
He is survived by three daughters; Cynthia (Dr. Charles) Shuler of
Thousand Oaks, CA; Rebecca (Tony) Strange of River Falls, WI; and
Sandy (Dr. John) Livermore of Sheboygan, WI, as well as his close
companion Maria Westra. He had eight grandchildren; Zachary, Hilary,
Myles, Bart and Duncan Shuler; Drew, Danny, and Julia Livermore, and
nine great-grandchildren!
A private family service will be held.

Max was a gentle, caring man with a huge heart. He will be greatly missed
by all who knew him.
