Doris M. Sievers Towsley, 95, of Sheboygan, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Aurora
Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. She was born June 19, 1923 in Sheboygan to Ernst R. and Bertha
(Gottowski) Breitzman. Doris attended Sheridan Grade School, Farnsworth Middle School and
graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1941.
On October 27, 1951 she was united in marriage to Earl F. Sievers, Earl preceded her in death on June
19, 1976. On April 4, 1981 she was united in marriage to Karl F. Towsley at Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2013.
Doris was an executive secretary at the H.C. Prange Co. for 25 years. She later did secretarial work for
the Kohler Co. retiring on October 1, 1988.
Doris was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church from birth and was confirmed in 1936 when
she started teaching Sunday School until she was 27 years old. She also belonged to the choir at
Immanuel and Our Savior’s and was President of the Ladies Aid at Immanuel for many years. She
became a member of our Savior’s in 1971 and has been active ever since. Doris was Church Council
Secretary several terms, worked with the Nomination Committee, Endowment Committee, and Social
Action Committee. She was the first Zone President of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of
Zone 10 in 1958. Also was the Southern Wisconsin District Treasure of LWML. She served as President
and Secretary of Sheboygan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and held office in numerous organizations, one
of which was Dial 452-PRAY.
Doris enjoyed the outdoors and especially the 15 years spent camping at Benson’s Resort at Long Lake
with family and friends. She started to golf later in life and enjoyed spending time on the course with
her husband and son. She traveled in every state in the U.S. and also in Europe and the Middle East.
Doris was a historian for both the Gottowski and Breitzman families and knew where everyone lived and
worked.
She is survived by her son Fred A. Sievers of Sheboygan, step-children; Mary (John) Whiteley of
Glenview, IL, Mark Towsley of Appleton, and Michael (Cathy) Towsley of Dallas, TX, grandchildren;
Meredith (Joe) Porior, Carolyn (Timmy) Aiossa, and Brian (Margie) Whiteley and Brent and Tony
Towsley great-grandchildren; Bridget and Mackenzie Whiteley and Kayla and Avery Porior. She is
further survived by nieces; Pat Hannisch Harts, Jane Hannisch Vincent, and Barbara Breitzman Dieringer,
and nephew Robert Breitzman. Doris is further survived by many friends and distant relatives with
which she kept in touch. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Earl F. Sievers and Karl F.
Towsley, grandson Kyle, brother, Jerome Breitzman and sister, Bernice Breitzman Hannisch.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church, 917 Mead Ave., Sheboygan with Rev. James Schulz officiating. Burial will follow at Lutheran
Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 9:00 AM
until the time of service at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association C/O BrightFocus Foundation
22512 Gateway Center Dr. Clarksburg, MD 20871 in Doris’s name.
