MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A Dane County Judge heard arguments on Thursday for and against the state’s 1849 law banning most abortions.
Attorney General Josh Kaul argues that the old law is hurting Wisconsin’s future.
“I’ve heard about OBGYN students who don’t want to practice in the state of Wisconsin at a time when we already have a shortage of OBGYN,” said Kaul.
Kaul argues that later laws passed by the legislature restricting legal abortion show intent to replace the old law.
Sheboygan County DA Joel Urmanski says Kaul doesn’t have standing to challenge the law.
The case is expected to head to the State Supreme Court.
