After a long, healthy, and active life, Bernard “Bud” Francis McGinley, 94, of Sheboygan, died on
April 21 due to complications from a recent fall at home.
Bud was born in 1929 to Michael and Grace (McCormick) McGinley on a farm in the rural
Soldiers Grove area of Crawford County.
He graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1947, and from UW-Platteville in 1952. After
graduating, he spent two years in the U.S. Army, then began teaching at Gratiot High
School. He later completed his master’s degree at Colorado State University.
He joined University of Wisconsin Extension and spent eight years in Grant County Farm Management.
During that time, he met his wife-to-be, Elaine Lukaszewski, at a new agent conference. He
caught a ride with her and her friends, using the excuse he had forgotten to bring a toothbrush and
needed to purchase a new one.
They began their married life in 1957 in Lancaster and had their first three children, Paul, Mark
and Kathy. In 1964 they moved to Sheboygan when Bud accepted the position of Sheboygan
County Agricultural Agent and had their youngest child, Tim. In 1968, Bud started a 17-year
career teaching high school biology, horticulture, and ecology in the Sheboygan Area School District.
Bud was fortunate to enjoy many years of retirement. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, a
member of the Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association, and a volunteer for the Master Gardener
Program and Fresh Meals on Wheels. His favorite activities included golfing, gardening, wintering in
Florida, and being the best grandpa to his 10 grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine (Lukaszewski) McGinley; children Paul (Jeri) McGinley,
Mark (Jenny) McGinley, Kathy (Charlie Tiede) McGinley, and Tim (Katie) McGinley; grandchildren Brenna
(Steve) Rantala, Laura McGinley (Tyler MacQuiddy), Ben McGinley (Amanda Schmidt), Sam (Kimmy)
McGinley, Katie (Kyle) Manley, Lucas Henderson (Allie Barringer), Tyler Henderson (Sarah Johnson),
Connor McGinley, Clare McGinley, and Meghan McGinley; great-grandson Milo Manley; two brothers,
Larry (Mary) McGinley and Mike (Ruth) McGinley; sister-in-law Barb Lukaszewski; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Elaine (who died in childhood), brother Patrick (Lois) McGinley,
and sister Ruth Ann (Al) Quam.
