The City of Plymouth is getting out of the Cheese business…in a way. After regaining ownership of the Cheese Counter and Dairy Heritage Center, the City has announced that the facility will be sold to a newly-formed non-profit group organized by Sargento Foods, Sartori Cheese, Masters Gallery and Great Lakes Cheese. They’ve formed the Plymouth Cheese Counter Foundation Incorporated, who’s goal is to preserve the history, culture and educational experience of the popular downtown destination.
The City initially bought the building for $1, developed it into a museum and food counter, and is now reselling it at its initial $1 price to the Foundation. The City of Plymouth plans to continue its annual $7,500 contribution to the Cheese Counter and Dairy Heritage Center in recognition of the Center being a tourist attraction for the Cheese Capital of the World.
