Richard M. “Wally” Wentworth, age 73, of Sheboygan, WI. Richard M. Wentworth,
husband of Chris Hembel, passed away on February 6, 2020.
Richard died peacefully after a brief illness, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice,
under the watch of his wife – Chris Hembel – and his faithful companion – Buddie.
He was born in Plymouth, WI on May 24, 1946.
He attended Plymouth High School and graduated in 1964.
He worked as a machinist at American Orthodontics from 1993 until retiring in 2008.
During that period of time, Richard was introduced to Chris by Pat (Richard’s friend) and
Julie (Chris’ cousin) Zak. True story…Richard asked Chris to marry him the night they
were introduced. That, however, did not occur until later, after the couple had purchased
and shared a home for five years. They were married on August 7, 1998.
Richard had a love for riding motorcycles (Harley Davidson only, of course). He was a
member of a motorcycle club from 1969 to 1988. The group was a source of
brotherhood and friendship for Richard. Many of those friends remained in touch to the
present day.
Richard also enjoyed the quiet pleasures of fishing. He could frequently be found in the
company of one of the four-legged pals that he shared his life with over the years,
heading to the Lake Michigan shoreline to try his luck. Richard loved catching fish, but
he did not love eating them, so many friends and family members were blessed with the
gift of smoked fish.
Richard was not a man of many words, but he was a good listener, and every once in a
while he could catch you off-guard with his wry humor. His heart was revealed in the
love he gave to and received from the furry pals he shared his home with…those who
have passed on ahead of him (Dammit, Freckles, Shadow, Dammit2) and the one who
lives on in his absence (Buddie). His love for his wife was also evident in the way he
encouraged her to pursue the things that made her happy, and in the way she could
never stay mad at him because he could always make her laugh.
Chris and Buddie will miss Richard deeply, as will the friends and other family members
who knew and loved him.
Following Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A private celebration of Richard’s life will take place at a future date.
The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Plymouth is serving the family.
