Residents are being warned against any outdoor burning today and to be wary of equipment that can cause sparks. That’s due to predicted highs in the 80s, gusty southwest winds and very low humidity. Combined with an ample supply of dry vegetation, conditions are favorable for wildfires and accordingly, the National Weather Service issued a “Red Flag Warning” for all of southern Wisconsin including Sheboygan County from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. this Wednesday. Only neighboring Manitowoc County has escaped that advisory.
Forecasters called today’s conditions “critical fire weather” because any fire could quickly grow out of control. It’s so dry that even sparks from a chain dragging on the road or from outdoor power equipment could start a blaze. Tomorrow’s conditions are expected to improve only slightly, and so for the time being any planned burns should be put off until cooler weekend weather arrives.
