Raymond W. Traas, 72, passed away at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice on March
22, 2023.
He was born June 24, 1950, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Walter and G. Dorothy (Bosman)
Traas.
Ray graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1968. After high school he attended
Lakeshore Technical Institute, became an electrician, and worked with his father at Walter’s
Electric, Inc.
On October 24, 1970 he was united in marriage to Janis Laack in Cascade, Wisconsin. He and
Jan ran the business and raised their family in Sheboygan Falls.
He was a member of the Sheboygan Falls Planning Commission for many years. Ray and Jan
moved to their country home in the Township of Greenbush in 1999. He retired in 2013, sold his
business to Mark Diener, and continued to work part-time for Diener Electric over the years. Ray
was an avid fisherman.
He enjoyed fishing on Lake Michigan and in Perrault Falls, Ontario, Canada where he took his
yearly vacations. His white beard and baseball cap were often seen driving around Sheboygan
County in his impeccably clean 2004 white Corvette convertible with an American flag motif.
During his retirement Ray was often found fixing things in his garage or detailing his vehicles
singing along to the classic rock radio station. Ray was a social person and met for coffee and
breakfast with his friends as often as he could. When his health declined his life-long friends
visited for coffee at his home which meant the world to him. Above all, Ray loved being a
grandpa.
Raymond in survived by his wife Janis, daughter Teresa (Jeremy) Boxrucker, son Tobin (Dana)
Traas and grandchild Elsa Rae Boxrucker. He is further survived by his sisters Luella (Lyle)
Justinger, Lorraine Tenpas, Darlene (Russ) Remus, brothers-in-law James (Kyle) Laack and
Dennis (Illomay) Laack, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws (Erwin and Althea Laack), and brother-in-law
(Robert Tenpas).
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at a later date. His family will take his ashes to Perrault
Falls, Ontario for one last fishing trip.
The family would like to thank the professional and loving staff at Sharon S. Richardson
Community Hospice, Dr. George Schroeder, Dr. Mark Bettag, and Amy Clark, DNP for their
intelligence and compassion, Jeff and Grace Thiel for being wonderful neighbors, and Mark and
Yvonne Diener for treating Ray like family.
