Edward G. “Ed” Liermann, age 86, of Cascade, WI, passed away early Saturday evening (February 11,
2023) at Cedar Grove Gardens where he had been a resident for the past month.
He was born on August 3, 1936 in Milwaukee, WI, the youngest son of the late Walter and Margaret
(Eggert) Liermann. He grew up on a farm near Fredonia, WI, where he had many mischievous
adventures and memories of hard work on the farm as a child. Telling loving stories of his brothers,
sisters, mom and dad growing up. Eddie loved life, his family, and his friends. He was often the life of the
party.
Ed attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse (St. John Lutheran School) and at Maplelawn
School both in Fredonia, where he spoke fondly of his school teacher Ms. Bell, and helped her in her
later years. Eddie graduated from Port Washington High School in 1955. He played football, and often
was yelled at by his coach, “Liermann!”
He served in the United States Army from 1957-1960 serving in Germany. Often getting yelled at by his
sergeant, “Liermann!” Begrudgingly, he helped a fellow soldier on a freezing cold night, (half-asleep,
crawling out of his sleeping bag/tent with many expletives) with his army delivery truck (Elvis). Eddie
was also able to connect to his father’s brother and extended family while in Germany.
On a beautiful summer day on June 19, 1965, he married Beverly Boretsky at St. John Lutheran Church in
Fredonia. Where they raised their family and attended church.
Ed worked for Simplicity in Port Washington and was an over-the-Road Truck driver most of his life.
He worked for How-Dea of Belgium, and retired from interstate trucking at Johnsonville Foods after 10
years of service. A time before GPS, Eddie always remembered details of his trips. Often referring to
directions as landmarks: such as you turn by this old church, or by this tree that grows out of a rock. He
then enjoyed driving gravel truck for Hartmann Sand and Gravel before retiring from the trucking
industry.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center and served for many years as
a trustee of the church. Ed also helped with the maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery where
you could find him on his mower.
Ed and Beverly traveled to many of the Southern and Western States along with trips to Europe, Alaska,
and Germany. He loved gardening and spent numerous hours outside, planting and taking care of his
flowers, plants and trees. Because of his love of trees, he was given the nickname of “Eddie Evergreen.”
Often sharing his love of gardening with family and friends. There is probably a tree planted in your yard
he has planted. He helped where help was needed. If there was a project to be completed, he was there
helping. In winters, he strived to keep his family warm by building 10 foot snow fences, and splitting 15
foot wood piles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Beverly of Cascade, his children; Carmen Liermann of
Ebersberg, Germany, Eric Liermann of Campbellsport and Tracy (Todd) Gerlach of Cascade. Five
Grandchildren: Katharina, Luis, Jackson, Benjamin and Marcus. One sister: Linda (Lyle) Lubner of
Fredonia, Three brothers-in-law: Stuart Boretsky of Waukesha, Donald Boretsky of New Berlin and
Lester (Joy) Boretsky of Kenosha. Two sisters-in-law: Sandra (Harley) Wilber of Sanger, TX and Ruth
Boretsky of the Villages in Florida. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives
and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter and Margaret Liermann, Two brothers: Wally and
Donald Liermann and one sister: Betty Everson.
