Community fundraisers are bringing Sheboygan’s Above and Beyond Children’s Museum closer to reopening after broken water pipes shuttered the popular venue on Christmas weekend.
Above and Beyond Executive Director Jackie Erdman said that the event this past weekend at 3 Sheeps Taproom raised more than $11,000 thanks to over 2,500 people who attended. With a matching gift provided by an anonymous donor, the days amount was doubled to over $23,000. A goal of $50,000 was set by the museum for reopening, hopefully this month.
Although insurance covered much of the damage, which is estimated at $150,000, it doesn’t cover the loss of daily income from patrons that would’ve been used for operational expenses.
More fundraisers for Above and Beyond are still ongoing. The End Zone Bar at 9th and Indiana Avenue began selling tickets for its fundraiser back on December 30th. That campaign concludes February 7th, and co-owner Penny McLaughlin said that their total will also get a match from the anonymous donor.
