Lakeland University was announced as one recipient of Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Grants on Thursday, part of a $420,000 award to 13 organizations helping Wisconsin veterans and families.
In announcing the awardees, Governor Evers said of those organizations that they “…do great work, ensuring Wisconsin’s more than 300,000 veterans and their families have the services they need to be successful, and they deserve to be recognized for being a vital part of ensuring our veterans are cared for and uplifted.”
There were 11 nonprofit grant recipients; Lakeland university was among two entrepreneurship grant recipients. Lakeland will receive $75,000 to provide entrepreneurship activity and break down barriers to entrepreneurship at Jake’s Cafe, a co-working space owned and operated by Lakeland University. The grant will allow new programs to fill gaps identified by community partners, including offering veteran-owned launch startups, accelerator programs, quarterly round tables, statewide virtual networks for veterans, co-working memberships, and promotional material and outreach.
