MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Hundreds of travelers remain stranded at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee after more flights were canceled on Tuesday.
A total of 17 flights were delayed or canceled outright at the airport, representing about 15% of all passenger flights at the facility. Once again Southwest provided the bulk of those cancelations.
The discount carrier continues to lead the nation in that statistic, with over 2,500 flights canceled on Thursday leaving thousands looking for other ways to get to their destination. Some have rebooked their flights on other carriers, others have turned to renting cars to drive themselves.
Southwest has said it could be Saturday or Sunday before they can reschedule all the stranded passengers.
The discount airline has blamed the rash of delays and cancelations on a winter weather system that’s impacted much of the country in recent days, though some staffers say the company’s outdated scheduling software hasn’t helped the cause.
