Whether or not Sheboygan County experiences a full-on blizzard may simply be a matter of semantics, because what forecasters do see is a life-threatening storm that must be taken seriously.
As data becomes clearer, it now appears that light snow will begin this evening, adding up to maybe an inch and a half by Thursday morning, then things start to ramp up. Although totals appear likely to be near the lower end of earlier forecasts with Sheboygan and surrounding areas expecting something near 6 inches by Saturday morning, the cold and winds will be nothing to mess with. Wind chills should drop below zero before sunset tomorrow, reach around 20 below by daybreak Friday and stay there until sometime Saturday morning when the snow should have ended.
Although technical standards of a blizzard might not be reached, winds gusting to near 55 miles an hour for almost 24 hours beginning Friday morning will make travel nearly impossible and extremely dangerous, especially in rural areas.
Forecasters emphasize the need to stay off the roads, prepare for possible power outages, and if you need to go outside, do so only with full cover and protection from life-threatening cold during this storm.
