Gary L Grunow, age 72, of Sheboygan, a husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, soldier, and friend passed away Sunday, December 4th, 2022, in the comfort of his home located in Apache Junction, Arizona. Gary was born to Frederick and Irene Grunow in Sheboygan on August 21, 1950. He was the oldest of five siblings.
He attended schools in Sheboygan until reaching his 17th birthday, when he enlisted in the United States Army. Before enlisting in the Army, Gary met his future wife, Margaret Stegemeyer. After serving three tours in Vietnam, Gary and Margaret married on October 30, 1971, and soon after welcomed, their first child Gary. Shortly after, the family grew to five with the births of Dawn and Wendy.
After being discharged from the U.S. Army, Gary and Marge returned to Sheboygan to raise their family. During retirement, Gary enjoyed many activities such as hunting, fishing, traveling, bowling, and bingo but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include His mother, Irene Grunow, wife, Margaret Grunow; son, Gary (Tara) Grunow; daughters, Dawn (Darwin) Higgins, and Wendy Grunow-Giesler; six grandchildren, Cullen, Hunter, Cheyanne, Destin, Thomas, and Hannah; seven great-grandchildren, two brothers, Dave (Honor) Grunow, Glen Grunow; three sisters, Bonnie (Larry) Paplham, Penny (Tim) Johnson, Patty (Dave) Paasch; one sister-in-law, Georgette Bruss; and fur baby Blanca and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Grunow, mother-in-law, Marie Stegemeyer, father-in-law, Kenneth Stegemeyer, brother-in-law, Bernhard Stegemeyer, and grandson, Edwin Higgins.
A funeral service for Gary will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan with Pastor Guy Marshall officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Valor with VFW Post 9156 providing full military honors.
