The John Michael Kohler Arts Center has been granted $1 million from a charitable fund named for its long-time director, Ruth Kohler.
The grant, awarded by the Ruth Foundation for the Arts’ RDK Legacy Fund, will support the Arts Center’s general operations such as exhibition and programming development, artist commissions and digital-asset management systems. The gift was among $11-1/2 million in grants awarded to 128 arts organizations on November 18th.
Ruth Arts, as the Foundation is known, is a Milwaukee-based foundation supported by a bequest from the late Ruth DeYoung Kohler II, who served as JMKAC’s director from 1972-2016. The crown jewel of Kohler’s legacy at JMKAC is the Art Preserve, which opened in June of last year. That museum, across from Esslingen Park in Sheboygan, houses the Arts Center’s collections on public view and is available for researchers and artists to study year-round.
